Pratiques

The Eye, the hand and professional techniques

Reading a place requires tools. From drawing to the point cloud, each practice is a way of perceiving — none suffices on its own.

01

Drawing

Self-taught airbrush from adolescence, then analytical drawing, life sketches, and observational drawing at Penninghen. Drawing is not an illustration: it is a tool of perception, judgement, composition and the rapid structuring of thought.

02

The model

Thinking with the hand. Cardboard study models, plywood presentation models, 3D-printed parts…

03

The survey

Before transforming, measure what is there. Hand survey, survey field notes, Leica BLK 360 laser scanner, drone: from the dimensioned sketch to the point cloud, the survey is the unavoidable act of the existing building.

04

The digital world

Monitor of the La Villette computer self-service from 1999 — the digital tool entered the practice early. AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3D modelling, virtual worlds: testing spaces where the project can be walked through before it exists.

05

Photography

A black & white darkroom set up in the bathroom of the Paris flat in 1995, a photo subject in Venice, years in the field — and today fine-art prints in limited, numbered and signed editions.

Writing

Writing to understand. From the diploma thesis devoted to Ruffec to today's books, writing extends the reading of places.
