the first circle of Yann Bacquet Author
The YBA Circle
Supporting an independent body of research.
The YBA Circle is not a tollgate. It is a way of bringing a body of work into existence.
For nearly thirty years I have been reading places — from Charente to Southeast Asia. An architect by training, I am interested in what a place already holds: its thresholds, its uses, its memory, its promises. From this gaze come writings, notebooks, research, images, games, projects…
The Circle is what makes it possible to keep producing it: research time, travel, documentation, podcast recording, the making of the books, and the preparation of what is to come.
By joining the YBA Circle, you do not pay to read. You allow an independent body of research to continue — and you enter the first circle of those who watch it come to life.
What the Circle makes possible
Your support funds a body of work:
- the research and the doctrine — the threshold, the transformation of the existing, the memory of places;
- notebooks and articles along the way;
- podcasts and reflections;
- the preparation of forthcoming books and games.
Without the Circle, part of all this would not exist. It is as simple as that.
What members receive
Beyond the gesture of support, being in the Circle gives access to what I alone can offer.
- Behind the scenes of the research — notebooks, field notes and works in progress, reserved for members.
- The books — early access, numbered and signed copies, bearing an ISBN.
- Signed photographic prints — from the exhibitions, reserved for the Circle.
- The games — early access to prototypes and research.
- A private breakfast — on request and by appointment.
None of these benefits is the real reason to join. The real reason is to want this work to keep existing. The rest comes as a bonus.
A single door
The YBA Circle is deliberately small: a few members, not a crowd. A single membership, conceived not as a mass subscription but as a companionship of patron-readers.
Free — the letter. The newsletter, open to all: enough to follow the news, even without joining.
Member — the Circle. €2,500/year or €250/month
Joining the Circle
The Circle is joined by hand, with no automation: you write, I reply, it is settled, you are enrolled, and your participation is immediate.
